NATHANIEL ORTIZ, '21, FOUNDS TECHNOLOGY STARTUP TO IMPROVE RECYCLING
A chance meeting spawned a technology startup, Saru Recycling, for graduating undergraduate students Nathaniel Ortiz of electrical engineering and peer Mahmood Shaheen. Their solar-powered recycling container autonomously sorts more than 300 gallons of recyclable materials and reports information wirelessly to optimize pickups and waste management. The bin will be paired with a mobile application that rewards users for recycling.
